Blurg: Eyes Like Stars
October 16, 2009
I just read Lisa Mantchev’s Eyes Like Stars and loved it! Unique, innovative, and freakin’ hilarious at times, thanks to Lisa’s take on the fairies from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Here’s the blurb:
Beatrice Shakespeare Smith is not an actress, yet she lives in a theater. She’s not an orphan, but she has no parents. She knows every part, but she has no lines of her own. Until now.
Welcome to the Théâtre Illuminata, where the characters of every play ever written can be found behind the curtain. They were born to play their parts, and are bound to the Théâtre by The Book–an ancient and magical tome of scripts. Bertie is not one of them, but they are her family–and she is about to lose them all and the only home she has ever known.
Highly recommended!

Sounds exciting! I’d love to hear more of your personal thoughts on the book though. I love hearing reader’s perspectives on stories like this.

I’m not much for doing reviews, but I like to “blurg” books I love, just to help promote them a bit and share the reading love.

I adored it too. I reviewed it on my blog.
Ariel was probably my favorite character, just because he was so incredibly complicated.

He was complicated! Just thinking about all those awesome characters makes me want to re-read already.

And I got to interview Lisa too, if you’re interested – she’s so nice!

Oh good – thanks for the link, Kristin. I was looking for the review but I guess I didn’t go back far enough. I’ll go check it out now! (I remember reading the interview you did with Lisa — it was great!)
