In my mailbox: the medicinal quality of good books

I haven’t done an In My Mailbox post for a long while. It’s time, don’t you think? For those of you new to IMM, it’s just about sharing books we’re excited about that have recently come our way — not limited to ones that have actually landed in our mailboxes. (If you’re interested, check out this info on The Story Siren’s blog.)

January was a difficult month on a few fronts, but if books are good medicine – and they are, they really and truly are – then I’m going to be just fine…. :) Here’s a look at what’s come my way in the past month:

  • UNRAVELING ISOBEL, by Eileen Cook (from huge-online-retailer-who-shall-not-be-named)
  • THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, by John Green (also from said huge retailer)
  • DON’T BREATHE A WORD (ARC), by Holly Cupala (won in contest on Joelle Anthony’s & Eileen Cook’s blogs – yay!)
  • CRACKED, by K.M. Walton (bookstore)
  • A MONSTER CALLS, by Patrick Ness (bookstore)
  • THE FOREST FOR THE TREES, by Betsy Lerner (borrowed from a friend)
  • SAVING JUNE, by Hannah Harrington (bought in supermarket)
  • RESTORING HARMONY, by Joelle Anthony (library)
  • HOW TO GROW A NOVEL, by Sol Stein (library)
  • FIRST DAY ON EARTH, by Cecil Castellucci (library)
  • THE MAYTREES, by Annie Dillard (library)
  • SHIP BREAKER, by Paolo Bacigalupi (library)

That’s a pretty awesome stack of medicine, yes? I feel better already.

A reading room built of books? Awesome. :)

Did you read and/or acquire any good books in January? Do tell!

Peace…. :)

Umm…do “Managing Technology in Higher Education” and “Making the Transition to E-Learning: Strategies and Issues” count? Ahhh. Gotta love textbooks.

Oh, they absolutely count! Just don’t expect me to add them to my own to-be-read pile. ;)

Saving June and A Monster Calls are both included in my best of 2011 list so I hope you enjoy reading them. :) I also read and loved The Fault in Our Stars but haven’t had a chance to review that yet. Books really are excellent medicine, they make you feel better everytime.

I’ll have to drop by later and check out your review of TFIOS. (I thought it was excellent!)

      Thanks for visiting! :)

I read Cracked and it’s amazing. The other books also sound intriguing.

I hope February is a better month for you.

I’ll have to put CRACKED on the top of the pile — another friend also told me it was amazing!

Thanks for the good wishes…. :)
