7s Challenge (a meme)

I’ve been tagged in the 7s Challenge by my friend Paul. Here’s the deal: go to either page 7 or 77 of your manuscript, count down 7 lines, then copy the next 7 lines (or paragraphs) to your blog. Then name 7 other authors to come out and play.

For the follows-directions-well part of my response, voilà! Seven lines from my current page seven:

The door to the house doesn’t want to open. I don’t remember crossing the yard or climbing the steps, but I’m here, desperate to be back inside. After struggling for a moment, I pull off one mitten and twist the brass knob with my bare hand, stumbling over the threshold when the door swings open. I push it closed behind me and let my parka slide to the floor.

My mother’s crying has stopped. The house is quiet – too quiet, as if no one has lived here for a very long time. I make my way to my room and collapse on the bed.

And for the rarely-does-as-she’s-told part…I’m not tagging anyone. Or wait, I’m tagging EVERYONE! Yeah, that’s it. I tag all y’all, cuz I want to read some excerpts from your stories! Leave a link in the comments if you participate, and I’ll drop by to read yours. :)

  1. Now what does Paul have that I don’t??? I tagged you way back in March of last year. ;) Ah, well… I did mine then so I’ll just link to it: http://wp.me/phaYw-1xr

Love your seven lines anyway. I remember that part of the story. They’re bound to make people very curious about why she’s so desperate to be inside and why it’s so deathly quiet when she gets there. It’s a story everyone will love reading so I hope it’s soon out there.
